Movie review : AH BOYS TO MEN

A new local firm directed by Jack Neo had its gala premiere this evening.  And I am one of the lucky few to be able to catch it before the mass public does. Thank you JTeam production and NYP for the tickets.

 A story based on the national service in Singapore, the storyline was very close to heart and educational. Ghost stories, non camera phones, tough training were all the things we knew about ns. Dear foreign readers, all boys aged above 18years old are obliged to serve the nation by going through a two year military training.  Back to the point, with majority of the filming done in tekong island, we are able to see the facilities,training equipments and an idea of how our male friends and family is going through.
The movie shows the differences of national service over the years by demonstrating the army life of the older generation versus the current generation.  That really broaden our knowledge about the national service a lot.
 The movie started off with war scenes ,as Singapore is under attacked by unknown terrorists . Most of the war scenes were allowed one take and they are really impressive.  Kudos to the editing team. They then tell the story of different singaporean boys coming from various background and continued with their lives in the army.
The story focuses on recruit ken chow(looks quite cute, me likey)  , a spoilt kid who dislike the army life and his uncle teaching him how to geng aka takes off responsibility. Will he change for the better ? The cliff hanging ending definitely makes us awaits for the second part of the story. 

The movie premiers 8november 2012, in all GV cinemas.

The Dark Knight Rises with Domino's pizza

We started off with a short speech by  Domino's marketing manager, Ms Linda Hassan . ( I took a pic, but it was blurry , so I deleted it)

Fans were able to get the limited edition glasses with every purchase of The Dark Knight meal ( ends on 5 Aug) . We were the lucky few to be able to get the glasses. YAYYYY.

The movie is 2 hr 45mins ,and  would end on 19 August in local cinemas. And we all know the movie is part of the Batman series.

The movie was great, it was a good session with my friends like how we will sit together and enjoy our Domino's pizzas together.

Cars 2 Private Screening

 

Because I is awesome, I had @Andystorm to wish me for birthday 

& got myself a pair of tickets for his movie giveaway! ( it's counted as a birthday gift i don't care)

Woots.

Supposed to bring Bestie @benvoda along but he can't make it.

So got Adeline to go along with me !

Met up at 9.30 AM , movie at 10AM.

Was kinda sad actually cause I wanted KFC Breakfast.

BUT THE KFC @CINE WASN'T OPEN!!!!!!!

Anyway some random camwhore before the movie.

I don't know why , I think I accidentally deleted the picture I took with Andy .

We caught Cars 2, the movie was fine.
If I had to rate it, I will give it probably a 2.5-3/5 .
Quite impressive but I find the storyline a bit MEH for animation.
Graphics is good of course.

Movie Review : Love in Space 《全球热恋》

Thanks to omy.sg, I manage to see angelababy yesterday !!!!!!!!!
I got @leongraphy to go with me!
Okay kidding. I didn't see her in real but I HAVE WATCHED THE MOVIE SHE ACTED IN .

 Love in Space 《全球热恋》



来来来， Watch trailer first.

The story revolved around how 4 ladies in a family , the mother and the 3 daughters - Rose (Rene Liu ), Lily (Gwu Lun Mei) , Peony (Angelababy) , find their "right one".
Genre : Romance + Comedy

Eldest daughter Rose is an astronaut, spends her time in the outer space. In the movie, she had to work with her ex-beau , Micheal ( Aaron Kwok) and spend time together in the spacecraft. They started out with a love-hate relationship at work. Whether if their relationship work out in the end, you have to watch it yourself. #marketingtactic.


Second daughter Lily is a clean freak. She had a traumatic  breakup with her ex that cause her to be diagnosed with claustrophobia. Then she met Johnny ( Eason) who is a garbage collector.



Youngest Peony is an actress who disguised herself as a commoner to work in a cafe to aid her in the prepartion work of her next film. She met Wen Fang( Jing Boren)  and never thought that anything could make any difference within the time frame .



Although I did found a few flaws, the sequence of the storyline was well planned.
A few things that I like about the movie.
- Easy to understand
- Content was good and simple.
- Message of the movie was conveyed to the audience.
It was quite funny that I keep laughing lor !

I feel that it is a movie that is suitable for all to watch , especially loving couples or couples who have their honeymoon period over.
From the movie, I do feel that love is blind, unpredictable and everywhere !
Great movie for after work or after school sessions.

Fist of Dragon Gala Premiere

Thanks to Joey and Nuffnang, I managed to go for the gala premiere for the movie " Fist of Dragon - 龙拳" last Wednesday.

I didn't expect it to be so grand I was super underdressed.

We managed to get ANOTHER picture with the Director/actor after the movie.
Where we also did a short interview with him.
He mentioned that the movie was inspired by Bruce Lee.


With 很可爱的 Monday !
You will not believe it because he is so different from the movie.
His character in the movie is like a screwed dude high on drugs.
Very handsome in the movie also , with eyeliner.

He also told us that the movie was filmed along the Tofu Street in Malacca .
The same place as little nyonya but it gave a different feel in the movie.

I feel that in general the movie is dedicated for kungfu show lovers and trying to convey about the importance of unity .
There are gruesome parts that lasted a min or so, basically I was covering those parts and didn't see.
Although I found some loopholes, but it is still a great action packed movie.
If you are a lover for action packed movie, this would be a must watch for you .
Do support local movies !

Green Lantern !!!

WAHAHAHAAH
I know no one except the few that were in the cinema as I do will believe this ,
I've watched the Green Lantern one day ahead of anyone else.

Definitely cheered me up and giving me a little break from whatever had been happening around me.
We caught the gala premiere at Shaw Lido .
Er, no not IMAX or 3D, we watched in 2D.
It's my first time catching a show after its renovations !
Much cleaner & more classy now.

Although I still think that the aliens are pretty ugly , the sound effects had surprised me.
I went into the theatres with a half-hearted mindset doubting the DC Comic based movie to be good and I'm glad that I did not miss such a wonderful action packed movie.

Well, if you are the kinda hardcore fan of DC comics you would have more or less know the storyline.
The story is structured where it is easy to understand and includes a little humour.
I feel that this movie is rather suitable for growing boys because it mainly talks about overcoming fear, admitting mistakes and taking responsibility.
As I've mentioned, I watched it in 2D and the effects were quite impressive.
I believe that the 3D version would be better.

Need some Inner Peace ?

Last wednesday evening , I caught Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D with the other omy.sg bloggers !

I had a pair of tickets and bought Himeko along ( she was texting me when I received the tickets)

I remember the last time I watched Kung Fu Panda (the first one ,like duh ) was in my chemistry class or something . I remember it being played on my classroom projector and we were supposed to understand the morale of the story .

" The secret is that there is no secret "

Just in case you stay in the mountains and don't know what is Kung Fu panda .

Staring Jack Black and Angelina Jolie

KFP2 is the continuation of the first one , where the panda, Po is now the dragon warrior and happily protecting the Valley of Peace together with his friends and his shifu. This time round, Po found out that he was adopted ( like obviously) and fought against the peacock , Shen to save Kungfu. Shen is a greedy peacock who wanted to rule China and simply hideous.

The story started with Shan the greedy peacock commending his ugly wolves to hunt for more metal for him to build his weapon. The furious five then help the villagers to protect their lives and remain unharmed. One of the wolf that was fighting with Po had this red 'radish' sign/logo which stirred up some memories when Po was a baby panda.

This made Po wondered who is he really is and got caught in an awkward situation. He wanted to save the future of Kung Fu , he also want to know the truth of himself . Upon his journey to clear his doubts, a fortune teller told him everything. Po then overcome himself and fight together with his friends !

I feel that this is a very suitable movie for family to watch together as the morale values they convey through the movie are inspiring and very motivative. The story was easy to catch and the animation was great. One of the key messages that the movie is to remain focus in whatever you are doing. Another one in my opinion would be that you are who you are, it's okay to have a bad past. Just work hard on the present and the future.

Well , evil characters always die in the end and the good always live.

Can't wait for Kung Fu Panda 3.

My prediction : I think that in the next sequel , Po will reunited with his panda parents and then fight against some evil animals again. Or maybe Po will retire and then stay with his parents, teach the little pandas that is staying in the village some kung fu .

Red Riding Hood

Last tuesday, I was psyco-ed by @curbsidekid and @heartsforsale to watch 'Red riding hood'.


In my point of view , I will rate the movie 6/10.

I did not watch the trailer beforehand and I was told that the movie had a little bit of thrill, romance and gruesome scenes.
I particularly like the way the story started, narrating the red riding hood's life since she was a little girl(valerie).
And that she grew up with a guy she like .
The scene sets were also not bad .
The house got thorns one I tell you.
However she had to marry another guy.
(You know lasttime cannt choose who to marry one)
The werewolf didn't make any trouble for the past 20 years.
I don't know why, but werewolf only come out on the full moon right?
So ya, valerie's elder sister got killed by the werewolf on the full moon day and this angered the whole village they were living in.
But people were also wondering why she come out on a full moon day.
The men in the village then got together and head up to the mountains and 'kill' the werewolf .
They thought they did, but they were so wrong .( they killed the animal wolf)
The pastor or something come to the village the next day told them they underestimated their opponent (which is the werewolf).
The people did not believe him and continued their celebration.
Then the werewolf came to attack and took away lifes. That's when the villagers realised that the real werewolf is actually a human that transform after the full moon is out.
And I think it somehow angered the werewolf and caused more lives to be lost.
The pastor was also too much lah, seriously. Put human into the metal elephant .

Eventually the pastor died too. Wee!
There are quite a number of twists in the story which made the story different from the fairytale and much more interesting.
The romance part is quite nice too because there were a lot of secrets in between her finance, her crush and her .
As well as her parents and her sister. Love triangle in short !
During the movie , we had our fun share of guessing who is the werewolf .
There were many clues guiding us to our guesses along the way.
There were quite a number of misleading clues too.
My guess were wrong :(
But the real werewolf was one of our suspects.
Trust me , you will be surprised by the werewolf's 'human-form' character too.

The storyline is good.
And pretty much like twilight i guess.
However , I felt that the ending was quite ridiculous and could have been better .
I was expecting something more scary or more romantic then they had concluded.
To me , I felt that the amount of suspense were too much. I
t was boring me already!
I think it was okay for the rest though .

I recommend you to watch this movie if you are bored and if you wanna waste time ,
not a MUST WATCH movie .
It is just a more adult way of interpreting the Red Riding Hood!

I suggest parents NOT to bring their children to watch as I believe they will have nightmares for that week,
and I felt that the romance part not suitable for children.
But if you think you got confidence in your child, I guess it is okay.
You can tell your child that the werewolf is coming to bite if they are refusing to sleep or behave at night . Wahahahhahaaha.
I think I can be kindergarden teacher already!

Burlesque

I'm not a movie person .
But this movie rocks.
I mean like how rare is it for me to request someone to watch a movie with me ?
Caught it with Diyan & Kengteng
Its has awesome vocal soundtracks.
TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH THE SOUNDTRACKS.
Although I dont really know whats the storyline.
(I guess its about this lounge & how passion kill one :] )

Costumes, and everything is awesome .
SERIOUSLY.

If you think the trailer has it all ,
You are wrong.
Expect more.

I love movies like that
In which the movie flows from one part to the another.
In fact we were late for the movie ,
but the thing about this movie is .
YOU WOULDNT BE LOST .
Kengteng came in 30 mins later.
She still managed to catch up with the story and stuff.
Certainly it will not bore you .
You miss a split second I swear you will regret.
YES. IT IS THAT GOOD.
If you have not watch .
PLEASE GO CATCH IT !!
